LASIK MD Laser Eye Surgery – Thorough eye examination

At LASIK MD, we will perform a comprehensive pre-operative eye examination to ensure you are eligible for laser eye surgery. Your pre-operative assessment is the first visit of your laser vision correction process. At this stage, we will determine your vision correction candidacy and if you meet the criteria, we will advise you which vision solution best suits your eyes to achieve the best results possible.

Step 1 – Preparing for your Pre-Operative Assessment

Before arriving to your pre-operative assessment, here are certain instructions you need to follow to ensure a successful pre-operative exam:

At your pre-operative assessment you will be asked to fill out a Patient Information Sheet. In order to make your visit at LASIK MD as efficient as possible, you can fill out this Patient Information Sheet online before coming to your pre-operative assessment.
* If you wear contact lenses, consult the Contact Lens Policy to determine the minimum length of time contact lenses must be removed.
* A dilation of the pupils may be performed. Because of this, eyes may be sensitive to light, so please bring a pair of sunglasses. It may also result in blurred vision, particularly for near work, for 4 – 6 hours afterwards.
* For your comfort and in consideration of other patients, please do not bring your children to the clinic.
* You may not be able to return to work after the evaluation.

Step 2 – Day of the Pre-Operative Assessment

This visit will last approximately two to three hours.

Patient Information

You will arrive at LASIK MD and be greeted by our receptionist who will ask you to fill-out a patient information sheet. This sheet asks questions pertaining to your health, the medications that you may be taking, and other important health information that will help us create a specific profile of you.

The Pre-Operative Exam

You are taken to our pre-operative room where we will conduct a series of painless tests.

Depending on your prescription, you may have your pupils dilated. If so, your eyes will be sensitive to light. As a result, you will need to bring sunglasses and we recommend that you do not drive for long distances. Please note that the majority of patients have their pupils dilated.

Doing the eye exam

Based on this information an optometrist will then conduct a complete eye exam, the results of which will enable us to determine your candidacy. At this time, our doctors will determine the best treatment for you and will further explain the recommended vision correction procedure.

After this, we will provide you with pre-operative counseling to complete your pre-operative assessment and discuss the final details.
